Project X- Minor Task

Project X was my favorite production out of the three i have researched. Their poster is so simple but it says so much about the production, Although the film it self is not one of my favorites their poster and the marketing of the film makes me love the production just due to how well thought and planned it was.

The font of the poster matches perfectly with the colors dark elements, the white and red make the title stand out to the public. The image of the three main characters saying on the roof of the house emphasis exactly how they felt through out the movie while everyone was partying, and the house was being destroyed. The background of thousands of people in the background with a dog flying away while he is tied to balloons gives the people audience all of the emotions of excitement and the dream of going to this insane party that is portrayed in the trailer is emphasized through this poster, not only the images and the elements that indicate this party was insane, but the  at the bottom with the phrase 'the party you've only dreamed about' and at the top ' the director of the hangover'.

All of those elements combined to me are what make this poster one of the best ones i have seen yet. Everything works so well together giving the same feeling in emotions that are expressed in the movie. The emotions of exitement, hilarity, recklessness, shock and regret are expressed incredibly well in the poster. The excitement when you see thousands of people, the recklessness as the dog is flying away, they feeling of shock and regret as they are laying down thinking about what happened and everything combined just gives the audiences that feeling of hilarity.

Social Media- General Takeaways/ Plan

After doing research for the social media task, i got some great inspiration for what I want to do. Through the research I learned that every social media marketing campaign has a goal and a target audience.

For Project X the target audience as teenagers and young adults, the goal with their marketing was to begin a new trend with social media as they were the first ones to use live comments and opinions towards marketing.  Barbie did the same thing by having an extreme well though marketing production by becoming partners with brands that teenagers and young adults who used barbie once upon a time, incrementing the 'Barbie World' into their everyday lives, by having the barbie burger, having barbie themes clothes at Zara, stimulating a feeling of nostalgia and creating high expectations for the film. Bullet Train had sort of a different approach as its target audience would vary from Kids, to teenagers to Adults. They did this by having actors that were an icon back in the day, attracting the more mature audience, but also having this sort of doll which attracts kids and teenagers since they used social media to have the character directly interacting with the audience on TikTok which blew up immediately  reaching more than 300+ likes in a matter of hours. Although the target audience of the film people who lives in Japan and Asia the film blew up World-Wide but it a lot more popular in Asia than the rest of the world.

My target audience for the the production is mainly American teenagers and young adults, creating sort of the 'American dream' nostalgia, which is viewed world-wide by teenagers, and pre-teens as they believe that is what their teenage years is going to look like, but that is farther from the truth. As I was growing up movies and shows that represented that 'dream' were everywhere, but for this new generation of pre-teens there are barely any movies that represent that and that feeling, and that is a big reason why I want to make something that gives that feeling of excitement, looking foward to the next couple years of your life. Which is why my main focus will be TikTok as it is the platform that most teenagers are addicted to, I want the audience to feel a special connection to the character by having interviews and them answering comments , etc.
I will also use Instagram but in a more formal way and not interacting as much as I feel like Instagram needs a higher level of formality than TikTok, so I will mainly be using it to post short clips, trailers, posters, countdowns on Instagram while on TikTok I want to seek a deeper level of connection with the audience.

Trailer one planning

After researching genres and the production I picked out I am certain that I want to incorporate all of the elements in my film. I love the comedy, drama,  and how the jokes are proportioned in all of the productions.

Since I am going to Brazil for winter break I am planning on recording the production there, and mixing all of the characteristics of each movie into one of the trailers. The first trailer would be like Project X, a party that gets completely out of hand but with major teen/ girl drama like Mean Girls. The trailer would begin with a 5 seconds shot of two guys making a funny comment about the party and it cuts to credits of the film with the title, main actors names, producer and etc. While the credits are playing the song 'Afraid to feel' by LF Systems will begin to play. When the credits are done shots setting the location of the production will role (music still plays ). After the location of the movie is set clips of one second of the party begin to pay, while the main characters start being introduced. There will be only a few short funny clips of the two main characaters making jokes, not revealing a lot about the production but also giving the idea that it will be a comedy with drama, exiting the audience to watch the production.

For this Trailer I want to focus on two guys as the main characters and making them the main character of the story instead of focusing on the girl who is being kidnapped.

Inspiration of what I want the establishing location to look like.

Establishing what the location of the house that the "party " will take place.

Print Minor task research- General takeaways

For the Print Minor Task I decided to use to use iconic productions related to the genres I am focusing on. Clueless, Bride Maids and  The Hangover are all productions that I am using for inspiration for the print minor task.

My takes from these 3 posters are that I need to focus on the positioning of the main characters, the colors of what they are wearing,  the expressions of the main characters and the font being used. In all of these the font is extremely well thought and it matches with the style of the film, except The Hangover.

The Hangover poster makes a lot sense by the expressions of the charcaters and the acessories being used, like the sunglasses, dirty clothing, missing tooth, bleeding mouth, scrunch face and etc. Those are all small details that make such a big difference indicating and expressing the emotions the movie is portraying. The background is shiny with stars, which I don t think it looks good, yes it emphasis the focus on the characters but it looks basic and simple, I feel like a btter alternative would be using a dark color and small pictures that would set the location of the movie. The font used in the top doesnt match with the rest also making it feel overwhelming to look at, but if the background had pictures or signs indicating it would be in Vegas, that wouldn't be necessary.

Poster of 'The Hangover'

After analyzing the poster of Clueless I want to incorporate how the colors of the clothing and background  work together to bring in the attention into the main character, not only the colors and positioning of the actors give the sense of how the  movie will be about three characters and the usual girl trio, but the colors all match and extremely aesthetic pleasing to look at. Making the poster much more enjoyable to look at compared to to the Bride Maids poster.

Poster of 'Clueless'

The Bride Maids Poster also uses colors to indicate who the main character of the movie will be and the colors are vibrant indicating the drama that will occur in the movie, however the brick wall in the background of the poster does not sit right with me. The Brick wall background brings in no additional information about the movie, besides it being ugly to look at it makes no sense at all of why it is there.

Poster of 'Bride Maids'

My plan for my print media is to use the key details that was in the Hangover movie, the color combination of Clueless and try my best to make it aesthetic to look at, while also using the expression of the characters and vibrant colors of Bride Maids.

Plan falls apart

When I started researching for my production, I really wanted to do a a teen comedy movie in Brazil. I wanted to focus the genre of the film in the Drama/ Comedy. Having a mixture of a party like Project X, comedy like Hangover and drama like Mean Girls. To me a movie with these characteristics would be a perfect film.  However that Idea feel through quickly. I wasn't able to record the movie in Brazil, and everything seemed to be falling apart.

I come back from Brazil and my plan completly fell through, and I had to come up with an idea quickly. I had no idea which direction I wanted to go anymore, so I just kept doing research till I found something that inspired me.  After weeks of having no direction and just doing research here and there, every idea i had just seemed to crumble in my  head and suddenly i would be back to having no idea at all.

One day I came across this new documentary on Netflix called American Nightmare based on a true story after a harrowing home invasion and kidnapping in 2015, a couple is accused of staging the ordeal when the woman reappears, haunting the couple with a new series of tortures. Although this an extremely sad and unfortunate event in the documentary the kidnapping was suppose to be for the boyfriend (Aaron) ex-girlfriend.

The documentary gave me the inspiration of combining all of the elements that I already wanted use but with some mystery and "crime" involved. But I had no idea of how I wanted to incorporate all of these aspects into my film.

Regardless of my original plan falling through and me having no idea of what I wanted to do for weeks I still pushed through and ended up find a something that got me excited about my production again.

Now, I need to work on figuring out how I want to incorporate all of these elements that would make a perfect movie for me into this trailer!

Social Media Minor Task- Bullet Train

Bullet train is an action comedy film  directed by David Letch and starring Brad Pitt  as a former assassin who must battle fellow killers while riding a bullet train.

To market the production they used the Momomon who is a character in the film had a TikTok account, audience was able to interact with the character like never before. They pushed beyond the broad audience boundaries made for other social platform, as we were allowed to play freely from behind the guise of a thristy homicidal mascot  She gave us the license to dive deeper into the wild subcultures within TikTok. She was a total success, firmly establishing Bullet Train with a younger audience as an original, clever comedy. By creating 60 original videos, we took this unknown character to 300K+ likes and more than 115K followers.

Doing this not only created a great expectation for the film, but it also achieved a broader audience which i believe is what made the film so popular at the time. Focusing on character during branding and including extremely famous actors, this brought in an older audience who wanted to see these actors in actions but also a younger audience who liked the Momomon and the interactions created a connection between the film and the audience.
